The objective of the course is to provide students an in-depth understanding of protein purification and related techniques, and their practical application in a research lab. Students will learn how to work with proteins through purification of a protein from bacteria or yeast. They learn cell lysis procedures, selection of buffers for maintaining protein integrity, dialysis and column chromatography. They will also learn analytical techniques such as electrophoresis and Western blotting.
