Materials Fee or Fee Change

Fall 2020
Ceramic Multiples I
Art and Art History
Fine, Performing & Comm. Arts
The total amount of materials needed for ACR 4000, are:
clay - 24000 lbs @ $0.26/lb = $624
glaze slip - 12 gallons @ $24/gal = $288
plaster - 1200 lbs @ $0.49/lb = $588
Total cost: $1500

$1500/12 students = $125 cost per student
To complete the assignments for this course over the duration of the semester, each student is expected to use 200 lbs of clay, 1 gallon of slip, and 100 lbs of plaster. The Ceramics area purchases the dry version of these materials and then mixes them them to keep costs low for students. For example, a standard bag of clay (pre-made from a supplier) would cost a student $0.57/lb, but by purchasing the dry version and mixing it in the studio, the cost is only $0.26/lb to the student plus the students benefit from learning the process of making the clay.
Loraleigh Keashly (ad8889) (Mon, 02 Dec 2019 19:13:57 GMT): Rollback: Hi, Sheryl. It is unclear to me what number of students was used to determine the cost per student of each item. in one part of the form, it notes 12 students projected enrollment. In the statement of rationale and justification, it says the ceramics area is servicing between 50-60 students per semester. So the question is how was the per student cost determined based on 12 students or 50-60 students?
Sheryl Oring (hb0085) (Wed, 04 Dec 2019 23:19:05 GMT): Rollback: please itemize the cost per student (see note from Loraleigh) you can call Judith if you have any questions. thanks!
Judith A. Moldenhauer (aa4725) (Thu, 05 Dec 2019 17:01:19 GMT): Rollback: Under Statement of Rationale, please indicate how you derived the figures used in the cost/student. If it is based on servicing 60 (please use a specific number rather than a range of 50-60) students in the Ceramics area, indicate how the cost per student applies to students enrolled in this course - that they are part of the 60 total students serviced.
Loraleigh Keashly (ad8889) (Mon, 16 Dec 2019 17:39:35 GMT): Rollback: The calculation on plaster is incorrect. 1200 lbs at .49 equals $588 and not $245. Interestingly, when I add the 588 to the cost of clay and glaze, the title comes to 1500, which when divided by 12 students is $125. Please have the recalculations done. I returned ACR 5000 for the same error.
