Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (Graduate Certificate)
This Graduate Certificate Program is designed to prepare nurses to assume primary care roles as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. The certificate provides nurses with essential knowledge and skills to assume psychotherapy, consultation, and liaison roles. Courses focus on systematic pathophysiology, pharmacotherapeutics interventions, advanced health assessment, and health policy and issues for advanced practice nurses.
Admission Requirements
Admission to this program is contingent upon admission to the Graduate School. Students must also meet the following criteria for admission:
- Completion of a Master's degree in Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing (CNS), or the completion of a Master's Degree in another specialty area, or concurrent enrollment in the D.N.P. program in the College of Nursing at Wayne State University. If the student is currently enrolled in the D.N.P program, the certificate will not be awarded until the D.N.P. is posted on the transcript.
- Current Michigan Registered Nurse licensure.
- Two professional letters of recommendation.
- Resume.
- Personal goal statement.
- Specialty certificate.
Program Requirements
The Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Graduate Certificate requires twenty-nine credits, which must be earned within three years with no transfer credit accepted. A minimum grade point average of 3.0 must be achieved. All course work must be completed in accordance with the academic procedures of the College of Nursing and the Graduate School governing graduate scholarship and degrees. Additional courses may be required based on a gap analysis.
