Mathematics Minor

The requirements for a minor consist of:

MAT 2010Calculus I4
MAT 2020Calculus II4
MAT 2030Calculus III4
MAT 2250Elementary Linear Algebra3
Select one of the following options for the minor electives. The number of total credits for each option will vary from 9-12 depending on which courses are chosen to fulfill the options requirements.9-12
(a) Three mathematics courses numbered 5030 or above, OR
(b) Select one of the following, plus two mathematics courses numbered 5030 or above:
Basic Engineering III: Probability and Statistics in Engineering
Differential Equations and Matrix Algebra
Elementary Differential Equations
Probability and Statistics
Discrete Mathematics
Fundamental Concepts of Mathematics and Proof Writing
Total Credits24-27

In both (a) and (b), the courses MAT 5120, MAT 5130, MAT 5180MAT 5190MAT 5992, MAT 6130, MAT 6150, MAT 6170, MAT 6180 or MAT 6210 do not satisfy the mathematics minor requirement for courses numbered 5030 or above. A cumulative grade point average of 2.0 or higher must be maintained in these courses. A student who is considering a minor should consult a Departmental advisor. At least 7 credit hours counted toward a minor must be taken at Wayne State, and transfer courses must carry a grade of C or better.
