Political Science Minor

Students majoring in other subjects may obtain a minor in political science by completing a minimum of five courses in Political Science. Information on combinations of courses that emphasize particular subfields of political science is presented in the listing of bachelor of arts concentrations. For information on courses of relevance to such majors as economics, journalism, history, sociology, psychology, philosophy, criminal justice, or urban planning, students should consult the department’s undergraduate advisor. A suitable sequence for pre-law students can be provided by the undergraduate advisor. Students must complete a minimum of three Political Science courses at Wayne University to earn a minor.

Students may opt for a general Political Science minor, or for a specialty track that emphasizes a specific subject area within the discipline.

Minor in Political Science:  International Politics Track

A minor in international politics prepares students to understand and engage with a rapidly changing and complex world, and to take on its most exciting and challenging work.  Courses in this concentration focus on how the political systems of other countries function internally and how they interact with foreign states, international organizations, and corporations.

Minor in Political Science:  Social Justice Politics Track

A minor in the politics of social justice prepares students to look carefully at the world around us, identify and evaluate systems that produce injustice and formulate strategies that can produce more just outcomes. Courses in this concentration focus on diagnosing ways in which political and legal institutions, social groups, and non-governmental organizations behave at the local, regional, national and international level and uncover pathways to more just outcomes through the activities of citizenship, advocacy, and protest.

Minor in Political Science:  Public Policy and Administration Track

A minor in public policy and administration prepares students for careers in government and nonprofit organizations. Students learn about how public policies are formulated, implemented, administered, and evaluated. Government and nonprofit service careers require skills in budgeting and data management, personnel management, and leadership as well as an understanding of the nature of public service and citizen engagement.
