Health of Populations Minor
Wayne State's Health of Populations Minor prepares students with a foundational understanding of the principles and practices of working with diverse populations in Detroit, Michigan, and beyond. This minor is designed to complement a wide range of majors, allowing students to explore the critical issues related to health inequalities, social determinants of health, and the well-being of various minority populations.
Through a carefully curated set of courses, students will interrogate the intersections of race, ethnicity, income, education, and power as well as the consequence for health outcomes. Students will understand the historical factors that affect health including individual and structural racism. Importantly, this minor will also examine the cultural differences and heterogeneity within minority groups, dismantling the implicit bias that obstructs tailored delivery of culturally competent care.
NOTE: Students with a major in Public Health cannot minor in Health of Populations.
