Elementary Education (B.S.Ed.)

Admission Requirements

Currently, students may be entered into one of our teacher certification programs upon admission to Wayne State University.

Degree Requirements

All students must complete the college requirements for the specific grade band concentration as outlined below. A minimum of 120 credit hours is required for the degree. Students have a choice of selecting a single band concentration (PK-3, 3-6, or Teach Detroit 3-6). 

Some of the courses cited in each of the grade bands may satisfy the University General Education Requirements.

PK-3 Grade Band

General Education Courses
The General Education Requirements for Quantitative Experience (MAT 1110; MAT 1120) and the Natural Scientific Inquiry (NSI) with lab (SCE 2100 and SCE 2105) are included in the PK-3 Grade Band coursework.
Approximately 28 credit hours are needed for General Education courses not included in the PK-3 Grade Band coursework: Basic Composition, Intermediate Composition, Oral Communication, Natural Scientific Inquiry, Civic Literacy Inquiry, Social Inquiry, Cultural Inquiry, Diversity Equity & Inclusion Inquiry, and Global Learning Inquiry. 28

Teach Detroit 3-6 Grade Band

Admission Requirements:
Unique to this concentration is an interest and commitment for working in the Detroit Community and an interview. Approximately 12 students will be admitted annually.
